Motorcycle Clothing for Women: What Matters When Choosing a Jacket and Trousers
In short: Women's motorcycle clothing should be cut separately, not just scaled down, so that the protectors on the shoulders, elbows and knees fit correctly. Look for EN 17092 certification (ideally AA), Level 2 protectors and waist and hip adjustments, and choose the size based on body measurements.
More and more women ride motorcycles, yet good women's motorcycle clothing is often hard to find. Many models are men's jackets in small sizes that do not fit at the shoulders, waist and hips. This is important because a lot depends on the fit of motorcycle clothing: The protectors can only protect you if they are in the right place. Here you will find out what matters when choosing a motorcycle jacket and trousers for women.
Why a dedicated women's fit is important
- Protectors in the right place. If a jacket is too long in the sleeves or too wide at the shoulders, the shoulder and elbow protectors will slip out of position. If trousers are too long, the knee protectors will sit too low.
- No flapping. Too much fabric at the waist and back will flap at higher speeds, making noise and causing fatigue on long rides.
- Freedom of movement on the motorcycle. In a riding position, you need room at the hips and thighs without the trousers pulling at the waist.
- Comfort all day long. When clothing fits, you forget you are wearing it while riding.
That is why our women's models are not simply scaled down, but designed separately.
What to look for when buying
- EN 17092 certification for the entire garment, ideally protection class AA.
- Protectors at the shoulders, elbows, back, hips and knees. Level 2 offers more impact absorption than Level 1.
- Waist and hip adjustments so that the jacket also fits well over a jumper.
- A connecting zip between the jacket and trousers so that nothing rides up in the event of a fall.
- The intended use: Do you mainly ride in summer, in changing weather or on long tours?
Protectors: Level 1 or Level 2?
Protectors are tested for residual force, i.e. the force that still reaches the body during an impact. The lower the value, the better the protection.
- Shoulder, elbow, hip, knee (EN 1621-1): Level 1 below 35 kN, Level 2 below 20 kN on average
- Back (EN 1621-2): Level 1 below 18 kN, Level 2 below 9 kN on average

Finding the right size
- Measure your body, not your everyday clothes: chest, waist and hip measurements, as well as inside leg length.
- Compare with our size chart. The measurements refer to body measurements.
- Try it on in a riding position. With your arms extended, the sleeves should still cover your wrists at the handlebars, and the trousers should reach past the boot shaft when seated.
- Mixing sizes is allowed. Thanks to the matching connecting zip, you can wear the jacket and trousers in different sizes.
Frequently asked questions
Can women wear men's or unisex motorcycle clothing?
Unisex often works well for gloves and rainwear. For jackets and trousers, a dedicated women's fit usually fits better because the protectors will be in the right place.
Is motorcycle clothing for women less safe?
No. The EN 17092 standard applies equally to women's and men's clothing. Our women's models achieve the same AA protection class as the men's models.
Textile or leather?
Textile clothing is more versatile in changing weather, is often waterproof and easier to care for. That is why many female riders choose textile for touring and everyday use.
Conclusion
Motorcycle clothing for women must above all fit. Then the protectors will be in the right place, nothing will flap and you can concentrate on the road. Choose according to the intended use, look for EN 17092 and take the time to find the right size.
